Tentative Schedule is posted. Please note:
1. This is still a preliminary schedule but is most likely fixed enough to use for planning purposes 2. The closing ceremonies start time has been moved back 15 minutes, and the length of the closing ceremonies has been extended by 15 minutes -- meaning that the closing ceremonies will finish 30 minutes later than previous years.
2. We will not be using the Tennis center this year. We will be back in Seibert for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as several of the events.

Change to the 2007 Science Olympiad Schedule
Based on input from you, the coaches who will be attending to the state finals for the Science Olympiad, I have decided to make one small change to the final schedule. The new tentative schedule is attached and the changed events have been highlighted in bold. The times for the Chemistry Lab and the Fermi Questions competition have been swapped. Please let me know if you have any questions. Hopefully, this will be the only change I need to make and the schedule will be locked down TODAY. Email me right away if you there are any other major problems with this schedule.
Thanks,
Brian

To all the Coaches of teams competing in the Div C Finals of the Science Olympiad:
Just a quick note to let you know that I have mailed each team a packet of materials relating to the upcoming Div 1 State Finals of the Alabama Science Olympiad (SO), which will be held here at Samford University on April 1st. The packet includes (1) a cover letter addressed to the coaches (and listing this year’s sponsors), which provides some information about the event and other details; (2) a copy of the Schedule of Events, which was locked down this past Friday (March 10); (3) the sheet listing the Device Drop-off Schedule and Sign-up Information, and other special equipment rules; (4) 2 copies of the Team Registration forms; (5) copies of the Coach’s Worksheets, which will help you plan your distribution of students; and (6) a campus map. Items (2), (3), and (5) can already be found on the Samford SO website (http://physics.samford.edu/Science_Olympiad.htm). These packets were mailed out Friday, so you should be receiving them sometime between Monday and Wednesday this next week.
Since I have not had any requests over the past several days for changing team numbers due to conflicts, all of the team numbers that are now listed on the Samford SO website are now fixed. Sometime this week, I will post homebase room assignments next to each of the teams and their team numbers. The campus map will be very helpful in this regard, as all the homebases will be located either in Brooks Hall or in the Sciencenter.
Don’t Forget – What I will need NO EARLIER that 5:00 PM on Tuesday evening, March 14:
I need each team to email me their sign-up event choices no earlier than 5:00 PM on Tuesday evening, March 14. Slots for the sign-up events listed on the 2006 Official Schedule can be found on-line at the Samford SO website. (**If you have already sent me this information by e-mail, you will need to resend me your sign-up choices after 5 pm on that Tuesday.**) As mentioned previously, I will take your requests and try to fit everybody's choices on a first come-first serve basis. Please give me as much flexibility as you can by providing more than one possible time slot for each sign-up event – if you can provide three or four possible slots, that would be wonderful!
Don’t Forget – Shirt sizes:
In the same e-mail, also send me your shirt sizes. As mentioned previously, coaches will be able to pick one shirt: a short sleeve light-blue button denim shirt, men’s or women’s sizes small or greater. Men’s shirts have a pocket and women’s shirts come without pocket. Please specify size and gender, and let me know if you want extra shirts – they will be available for $20/ea. Each team will be allowed to pick 16 t-shirt sizes. If I do not hear from you about the shirt sizes, I will automatically order an XL-men’s coach’s shirt, and 2-small, 4-medium, 5-large and 5-XL t-shirts for your team.
Thanks again for helping to make this another exciting year for the Alabama SO!

To all the Coaches of teams competing in the Div C Finals of the Science Olympiad:
All of the team numbers have now been listed on the Samford SO website (http://physics.samford.edu/Science_Olympiad.htm). I ask each of you now to look at your assigned team number and let me know if there are any SERIOUS conflicts. As it stands right now, there is almost no flexibility in the Teams 1-8 slots, as I’ve already had several requests for positions there.
At this point, I would like to ask ALL the coaches who have requested (or want to request) a slot in Teams 1-8 to look VERY CLOSELY at their schedules to see if it is possible they could fit into Teams 9-16. If any of you can switch into these slots, please let me know – not only would that make my life much easier, but you might also alleviate serious conflicts/disadvantages that others might have.
Thank you for your help in this. By helping me in this way, you are making the event much more enjoyable for everyone involved.

Hello and Congratulations on Your Success at the Science Olympiad Regionals!
If you are receiving this email, you should be the coach of a winning Division C team at one of the Regional AL Science Olympiad competitions, and are therefore heading to the state tournament. (If you have received this email in error, please let me know ASAP!) I will be sending the coach of every winning team a packet of materials related to the state competition later this week. Currently, I would ask that everyone go to our website if you haven’t already (http://physics.samford.edu) and check the schedule carefully.
I plan on locking down the schedule this Friday, March 10. After that no changes will be made unless we have a problem here at Samford.
What I need ASAP:
If you have not already done so, please email me your intent to attend the Division C tournament at Samford. DO NOT WAIT too long to do this – if you do not let me know that you are going to attend, we will offer your slot to the next team in line from your regional competition. I will then assign you a team number, either within the first group (Teams 1-8) or the second group (Teams 9-16). Next, check the schedule and make sure that you will be able to live with the selection. Notify me of any critical problems ASAP and I will look into solving the conflict.
What I need on Tuesday evening, March 14:
I need each team to email me their sign-up event choices no earlier than 5:00 PM on Tuesday evening, March 14. The available slots for the sign-up events listed on the 2006 Official Schedule can now be found on-line at the above website. (**If you have already sent me this information by e-mail, you will need to resend me your sign-up choices after 5 pm on that Tuesday.**) I will take those emails and try to fit everybody's choices on a first come-first serve basis. Give me as much flexibility as you possibly can. Don't give me only one time slot for your team – make sure to provide me with variety of slots that will work for your situation. Last year we were able to fit everybody that emailed me right away into a working schedule.
In the same e-mail, also send me your shirt sizes. Coaches will be able to pick one shirt: a short sleeve light-blue button denim shirt, men’s or women’s sizes small or greater. Men’s shirts have a pocket and women’s shirts come without pocket. Please specify size and gender. Please let me know if you want extra shirts – they will be available for $20/ea. Good luck, and see you on April 1st!
